What counts as an accident under this plan?

An accident is defined as a sudden, unexpected event resulting in an injury to your pet. This includes incidents like being hit by a car, falls, animal attacks, ingestion of foreign objects, lacerations, fractured bones, and other physical injuries. It does not include illnesses, hereditary conditions, or pre-existing conditions.

What's not covered under the Accident Only plan?

This plan does not cover any illness-related conditions or treatments. Examples of non-covered conditions include cancer, diabetes, allergies, skin conditions, ear infections, digestive issues, heart disease, and any hereditary or congenital conditions. Routine or preventative care is also not covered unless you add the optional Routine Care benefit.

Is there a waiting period for accident claims?

Unlike our illness-coverage plans that have a 31-day waiting period, the Accident Only plan typically has no waiting period for accident-related claims. This means your pet is covered for accidents from the moment your policy becomes effective. However, pre-existing conditions still have a 12-month waiting period.

When would the Accident Only plan be a good choice?

The Accident Only plan is an excellent choice for pet owners who want financial protection against unexpected accidents but are looking for a more affordable premium. It's particularly suitable for young, healthy pets without a history of illness, or for owners who are comfortable covering routine care and potential illness costs themselves but want protection against costly accidents.

If my pet has an accident that leads to an ongoing condition, is that covered?

Yes, if your pet develops an ongoing condition as a direct result of an accident (such as arthritis following a fracture), treatments related to that condition would typically be covered under the Accident Only plan. However, if the ongoing condition is partly attributed to or complicated by an illness factor, that portion of treatment might not be covered. Each case is evaluated individually, and we recommend discussing specific scenarios with our claims team.
